2017 Golf Course Improvements09/09/2016 2017 has been a very busy year on the golf course at The Tanglewood Club. You’ve probably noticed our maintenance team involved in a number of projects designed to enhance the golfer’s experience and make playing the course more enjoyable. Our bunker renovation project was completed this in June and now we have 43 of the best looking bunkers that you will find anywhere. Our bunkers were completely excavated and edged. The excavated sand was replaced with fresh sand and all new subsurface drainage was installed in the bunkers. The result is enhanced playability and a pristine appearance. Cart paths were renovated and replaced around the #1 tee areas, 9th green, 10th tee, and 18th green along with areas surrounding the practice putting green. Many of these cart path areas were widen also. We purchased a new fleet of new, advanced Toro fairway mowers that cut the grass more efficiently with reduced grass clippings left behind. This provides a cleaner lie for the ball on the fairways. In addition, we purchased a Toro bunker machine to spin the sand in the bunkers providing a “softer” lie in the bunkers should you happen to end up there every once in a while. We have added new ladies tees on the 7th, 9th, and 13th holes to increase our teeing areas and to offer a shorter version of these great golf holes. Many of our tees were expanded this year to recapture teeing space that had been lost over the past 20 years. Our golf course weed spraying program was increased substantially this season to incorporate all areas of the golf course. The weed populations on the course were reduced drastically this year with two additional wall-to wall herbicide applications. Finally, to deal with the never ending water seepage from Tanglewood Lake and the underground springs that pop up and spread water onto the 10th fairway, we installed over 1,000 feet of drain tile to our 10th fairway. We still have a few projects to wrap up in 2017, including adding a new landscape bed between the 9th green and the cart barn. In addition, we are currently beginning the evaluation process to determine which projects we will undertake next season, but rest assured, our goal is to make The Tanglewood Club your favorite area golf course in Northeast Ohio.
